For 35 years, Dynamic Closures (Aust) Pty Ltd has been at the forefront of the shopfront security industry, consistently setting new standards in innovation, design, and functionality. As we celebrate this significant milestone, it’s clear that Dynamic Closures has become a trusted name for retail security solutions in shopping centres across Australia.
 
What began as a small operation in a modest 280-square-metre factory in Lilydale, Victoria, has transformed into an industry leader. At the time of its founding, shopfront security was largely reliant on roller shutters and domestic garage doors. But Robert Horner, Managing Director and founder, saw an opportunity to revolutionize the way retail shopfronts were secured. With the introduction of the Wide Body Futura, Slim Line Futura, and grille-style side-folding concertina closures, Dynamic Closures brought a new level of design flexibility and functionality to the market.

​Early adopters like Delta Music (which later became Sanity Music) quickly saw the benefits of these innovative products. The versatility of the side-folding concertina door system allowed retailers to design modern, flexible store layouts, accommodating tall shopfronts, curved bulkheads, and wide openings. This not only maximized sales floor space but also provided a cleaner, more streamlined look when the doors were stacked away during trading hours.
 
One of the standout features of Dynamic’s doors is their overhead hanging system—no need for floor tracks or cumbersome mullions. This not only makes the doors safer and easier for staff to use but also enhances the overall aesthetic of the shopfront. Secured with auto-retractable top and bottom locking bolts, these doors offer robust security with a user-friendly design, ensuring peace of mind for both retailers and shopping centre managers.
 
As the business grew, so did its ability to innovate. In 1998, Dynamic Closures took on its largest project yet: supplying security doors for stores at Sydney Airport ahead of the 2000 Olympics. This expansion led to the introduction of the Dynaglide model—a game-changer with its 100mm wide panels. The company also introduced new panel materials, such as Paravent, a perforated metal designed to improve airflow, along with a variety of powder-coat finishes for a more customized look.
 
The demand for customised security solutions continued to grow, leading to the launch of the premium Dynasty range. This bespoke range offers fully customizable panel sizes and configurations, giving retailers the flexibility to create a unique and secure shopfront tailored to their specific needs.

​Today, more than 70% of Australian retail tenancies use various brands of side-folding doors, with Dynamic Closures leading the market. This widespread adoption is a testament to the company’s commitment to quality, security, and design.
 
But Dynamic is more than just a door manufacturer. The company prides itself on its dedicated service team, offering repairs, maintenance, and installation Australia-wide. Skilled technicians ensure on-time delivery and top-notch service, giving retailers confidence that their store is both secure and operational.

​Spanish fashion house Loewe opened its Melbourne flagship store in May 2023, offering the largest range of its highly desired bags & accessories, homewares, shoes and mens & ladies ready-to-wear in Australia.

​It sits proudly in a corner location of the iconic landmark T&G Building, joining other high end luxury retailers at the ‘Paris end’ of Collins Street and is home to an eclectic collection of art and design featuring furniture, homewares and soft furnishings on a backdrop of pristine concrete, ceramic surfaces and glass hemmed by glazed pink tiles.

The craft of leathermaking has been central to the Loewe story for in excess of 175 years, combing the passion for traditional techniques and materials with modern technologies to create iconic objects of desire.  Committed to the art of handmade craft, the brand has a keen interest in decorative crafts and unique artisan crafted objects and original works along with contemporary art as it inspires and informs their collections.

​Dynamic Closures was engaged early in the design phase, on the back of our reputation for customised security solutions, to collaborate with the design team and develop a solution for the shop-front interior that would result in an aesthetically pleasing physical security barrier while still enabling after hours community engagement.

The result is a sophisticated side-folding closure with enhanced security features, in-built strength & reliability, hidden in joinery cupboards during trading hours, which provides the reassurance of a secure zone after hours for the retailer and its staff.

June saw our teams from QLD & NSW join a variety of industry suppliers & supporters exhibiting at the Interior Fitout Association (IFA) Trade Shows held in Brisbane & Sydney.
 
From solid surfaces, laminates, computer software & site equipment to our own Dynamic concertina door samples, there was plenty to get your hands on. Passionate about the industry, exhibitors happily share knowledge and educate the shopfitters attending on the products and services available. Best of all, these free events are a great networking opportunity; catching up with our favourite people in the industry for a drink and a chat is always a good way to spend a couple of hours on a Thursday afternoon.

As an Australian manufacturing business, we have been keenly following the debate and progress of Australia’s Emissions Reduction Plan. We’re proud that our door systems are largely constructed of recyclable materials; aluminium, polycarbonate and glass, part of a sustainable future.
 
After much research, we felt that moving to low emissions technology for our energy needs would provide the opportunity to reduce our carbon footprint and make a positive impact on the environment. As a renewable source of power, solar energy plays a role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
 
Five months later, we now have 79 solar panels on the roof of our Melbourne factory, generating an estimated annual output of 50223 kilowatt-hours (kWh). We expect that we will export 36% of the low emission energy we generate back to the grid annually.
 
With ever-escalating energy costs and a pay-back period of less than 4 years, this decision is good for our business, our people and the planet.

The first golfing event on the 2023 Interior Fitout Association member networking calendar was held at Joondalup Country Club Resort, WA on Friday 17th March.

IFA members and industry associates were treated to beautiful sunny weather and a stunning location, with the Dynamic team on hand to greet participants with giveaways.

The perennial lolly guessing competition was won by Jason from Masonex with his guess being just seven off the correct amount, winning him a Makita tool kit. Masonex are long time supporters of IFA Golf Days in Perth, also generously bidding for the lolly jar in years gone by.

This year Dynamic raised $700.00 for the Olivia Newton-John Foundation.

The 2023 IFA QLD / Dynamic Closures Golf Day was held on Friday 24th March at Nudgee Golf Course in Brisbane. 

A huge turnout of around 140 players resulted in a fantastic amount of money being raised for Ronald McDonald House Children's Charity in SE Queensland.  

Dynamic's lolly jar guessing competition has been a crowd favourite for many years and this year was no different! Luke from Trivision took home the Makita tool kit, while all attendees enjoyed giveaways from our hospitality marquee on hole #1.

Between the lolly jar guessing competition and the auction of a QLD 2022 NRL State of Origin Jersey at the presentation lunch, just shy of $4,000 was raised for charity.

It was an awesome way to spend a sunny Friday and Dynamic hopes to see some of the first-time golfers return next year.

Sydney finally enjoyed a sunny day for the IFA NSW Golf Day held on Friday 28th October, 2022.
